Beck in provisional World Cup squad

Andreas Beck was named in Joachim Löw's provisional squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The Germany coach announced the list of players in a press conference on Thursday afternoon at the Mercedes-Benz-Museum. The final decision on which 23 players will travel to the finals in South Africa will be made on 1 June at the squad's training camp in South Tirol in accordance with FIFA's wishes.

Löw also named a number of U-21 players in the squad for the friendly match against Malta on 13 May in Aachen. With captain Michael Ballack due to contest the FA Cup final with Chelsea and the Bayern München and Werder Bremen members of the squad set to do the same in Germany, the 50-year-old tactician will be without a number of key personnel for the match.
