1899 in 2010: Beck misses out on World Cup

achtzehn99.de is taking a look back at 1899 Hoffenheim's 2010. What experiences have our players gained, which moments have stuck in their memories? How many unforgettable highlights did 2010 give us? Which set backs did the men from Kraichgau have to overcome? In the months of June and July there was only one event on every football fans mind – the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Unfortunately for 1899 captain Andreas Beck, there wasn't a spot on the German plane for the right back.

The build-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup was at fever pitch all over the world in June and July and, despite injuries to key players such as Rene Adler and Michael Ballack, hope was high amongst German football fans. It's a spectacle for football fans worldwide and a dream come true for any of the participants. Unfortunately for Andreas Beck in tuned out that 2010 was not the year that he was destined to realise this dream. After Joachim Löw had whittled his squad down to 24 players there was one spot left to be decided. For Andi, our beloved captain, it was bad news on this occasion, but his reaction has been admirable as he has bounced back from the disappointment and can now be reflective on the experience: " I don't know many successful people who simply continually progressed because set backs are part of life and are vital to our development. Since the summer I've been given the captains armband in Hoffenheim and have made two international appearances. I've just got to keep fighting and hope that I won't be the one to miss out when the 2012 European Championships happen. Until then all I can do is give my everything for this fantastic club!"
